ISSI NANABEYIN ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Issi Nanabeyin (b. 1995) is an multidisciplinary designer trained in Architecture, based and raised in East London. Issi's work builds diasporic identities into (digital) forms, visuals, text and spatial interventions. Issi’s practice is a refusal to accept architecture as singular or stagnant. Illustrated by a coming together of his own architectural, ancestral and digital narratives, his practice breaches the binaries of cultural separation to form architectural reimaginations for the contemporary diaspora. His work examines narratives of liminality, migration and hybridity, drawing on the adjacent fields of cultural, critical and race studies and manifesting those narratives into the territory of architecture. Centering his practice on the idea ‘‘How to live out your imagination, not just your History.” Issi is currently a Researcher for the African Futures Institute and a Design Tutor on the BSc Architecture programme at the Bartlett School of Architecture. Issi is a Grant recipient of the Black British Artist Grant and a Artist of the London Creative Network.
