Coline Gaulot is a French artist born in 1986 in Colombes, who lives and works in Bordeaux. She combines painting, sculpture, stoneware and porcelain around intimate narratives and collective rituals. Zone Trois Galerie is devoting a solo exhibition to her in 2026.
Biography
Coline Gaulot was born in 1986 in Colombes. She lives and works in Bordeaux. Her practice cuts across media, bringing painting, sculpture, porcelain, writing and installation into a sensitive, narrative visual language in which each work stands as the witness to a lived moment, held in suspension.
Her work looks at private stories, collective rituals and shared emotions, and never turns them into spectacle. Pools at night, bouquets caught mid-wilt, birthday cakes, the remains of a feast, fragments of water landscapes: the images she keeps are familiar ones, and it is that familiarity that carries their emotional and symbolic weight. Water runs through the work as a recurring motif, a mirror for our memories and our relationships.
Coline Gaulot is a graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux and of Fukuoka University of the Arts in Japan, where she studied traditional painting. That double training shows in work attentive to slow time, to the patient gesture, and to the poetic charge of ordinary objects.
Painting takes the large formats. "Le Grand Chien" (2022) measures 325 × 185 cm, "Les fleurs juste avant" (2019) 232 × 160 cm, "Le bouquet d'anniversaire" (2020) 228 × 182 cm: acrylic canvases in which the floral motif returns year after year, right down to the titles — "Premier bouquet" (2018), "Ceci n'est pas un bouquet d'excuse mais un bouquet de compagnie" (2019-2020), "Je voulais t'acheter du mimosa mais je n'en ai pas trouvé" (2019). Alongside them, smaller oils tighten the frame onto a detail or a turned back: "Bananes" (2023), "Vue de dos jaune" and "Vue de dos rouge" (2023), "Glisser sa main entre deux boutons" (2025).
The sculpture takes up the same subjects and fixes them in clay. Stoneware and porcelain give "Le grand tas de frites" (2021), "Le retour du homard" (2021), "Le perroquet" (2024), "Le bouquet tombé" (2024), a set of nine signed and numbered "Petits oiseaux" (2026), and "Chien faïence" (2026), which lends its title to the exhibition presented by Zone Trois Galerie in 2026, I Wanna Be Your Chien de Faïence.
Coline Gaulot has been awarded the Prix du FRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine MÉCA (2020), the Collège de Marsas public art commission (2025) with the project L'Aventure, and the Prix Robert Coustet 2025, for which a monograph is in preparation, due in 2026.
