Julien Laporte, born in 1995, is a painter who trained at the Beaux-Arts de Paris and works in Perpignan. He paints southern landscapes and everyday scenes in acrylic, with a fast line and bright colour. Zone Trois Galerie gave him a solo exhibition in 2024.

Biography

Julien Laporte was born in 1995. The son of winegrowers, he spent his childhood facing the Mediterranean — roots he describes as deep and inescapable. A graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Paris, he set up his studio in Perpignan, where he has built an instinctive, light-filled body of work, a tribute to the South as a whole and without borders.

In the manner of a contemporary Fauve, he captures landscapes and scenes of daily life: a fast, generous line to catch what cannot be caught, and a palette full of vitamin D. Strolling, contemplative, sometimes meditative, he shares an imagination shaped as an invitation to travel.

He works mainly in acrylic on canvas, in easel formats — 81 × 60, 100 × 73, 162 × 130 cm — and up to large scale with "Roche" and "Découvrir le ciel" (195 × 130 cm). He also composes diptychs: "Casas blancas", "Chambre 106", "Nuages stagnant". The motifs return in families. First the trees and hills, in "Dans la colline", "Arbres et pierres", "Arbres vue d’en bas" and "Arbres et printemps". Then the interiors and terraces, in "Terrasse pour deux", "Café dans le jardin" and "Chambre 106". Finally the resting figures, in "Lecture à l’ombre", "Le bain", "Femme se peignant" and "La femme aux tournesols". A few earlier pieces, such as the untitled work of 2019, are made in acrylic and pastel on paper.

In 2021 his oil-pastel work led the singer Joseph Chédid to use it for the cover of his track "Guérir".

Zone Trois Galerie gave him a solo exhibition from 20 June to 31 July 2024, with an opening on 20 June from 6 to 9 pm. Available works are offered on a price-on-request basis, and the gallery keeps a catalogue of available pieces.

“I like to depict beauty in simplicity. At the bend in the road, at the bottom of a garden, on the rocky shores of the Costa Brava.” (the artist)
