Here by Dragons
Solo exhibition
at Zone Trois Galerie
“Here by Dragons” is Issi Nanabeyin’s solo exhibition at Zone Trois Galerie in Bordeaux. The artist and architect takes up the old cartographers’ formula to speak about complex identities rather than blank territories. 18 April to 14 June 2024.
Press release
“Here by Dragons” was a term used by cartographers to fill the blank of unexplored territory with illustrations of dragons and other mythological creatures. Wherever there was the unknown, myths appeared to explain it.
Those geographical blanks no longer exist, but the notion of dragons persists as a metaphor for the challenges and complex identities we face.
This exhibition is not literally about dragons, but about us as beings at once mythical and real, shaped by our histories and our realities.
An exhibition supported by Château Desmirail.
