Anaïs Vindel is a painter based in Bordeaux, France. She works in ink on cotton canvas using a technique she calls Wet & Dry, or the petal technique, layering ink over a soaked canvas. Zone Trois Galerie represents her and gave her a solo exhibition in 2023.
Biography
Anaïs Vindel is a painter based in Bordeaux. She draws her material from landscape, translating her emotions, thoughts and visions onto the canvas. Her work is an invitation to reconnect with oneself, with nature and with the beauty of the world.
For her, a painter should make the world more beautiful and offer the eye a space to escape into, carrying positive and generous messages. She is drawn to joyful subjects, but also takes on more committed themes, always with a deep respect for living things.
Each canvas is the stage for a precise search for colour, tied to an emotion or a vision: light cutting through a forest, a diffuse sunset. Anaïs Vindel patiently recomposes the palette of nature through a technique she calls Wet & Dry, also known as the petal technique. She layers ink over a soaked canvas, left bare in places and half-covered in others, to build density and depth. Drawn to photography and to the magic of blur, she transposes scenes imagined in nature into paint and organises them into series — among them one built around a supernatural flower — extending the life of the moments she captures in her mind.
Her works are made in ink on cotton canvas, often as large squares of 198.5 × 198.5 cm, sometimes in intimate formats of 22 × 18 cm; several are presented in a painted oak frame.
Zone Trois Galerie gave her a first solo exhibition from 13 December 2023 to 10 February 2024. Writing for it, Laurence Bastide described soft ochre forms that refer back to the earth, an ode to the primitive culture of ceramics and, more broadly, to the Hellenistic culture of the Mediterranean; the works are reminiscences of journeys, sunsets, sensations and memories. In them the artist handles dark ink and brown tones set against touches of ochre, and the rounded forms that characterise her painting create a warm atmosphere.
In 2025 she exhibited with the ceramicist Caroline Desile in Fragments of Territory, from 25 September to 24 December, with Château Desmirail as patron. The two artists set material and territory in dialogue in an exploration of time and memory. Anaïs Vindel is also one of the ten artists in Summer Exhibition II, from 28 May to 12 September 2026, where she shows Atmospherie and Blonde.
